The following factors were not associated with an increased risk for hypoglycaemia: gender, age, type of admission (medical, scheduled surgical and unscheduled surgical), intensive insulin therapy (IIT) protocol, severity of illness (Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS II) and Sepsis-Related Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores at the first day of sepsis), acute renal failure (in contrast to continuous renal replacement therapy), vasopressor and hydrocortisone therapy, length of mechanical ventilation and length of stay.
