The website sections
The site is organised into eleven main sections, all accessed via the main navigation bar.
Home: The journal homepage is divided up into three areas:
- On the left is 'Latest news' where you can find links to the latest news articles in the field, and below is an overview of the website features.
- The middle section includes details of, and links to recently published articles, as well as our latest image highlight and relevant journal news.
- The column on the right contains quick links to the search, registration and submission pages, as well as links to the top 20 most accessed articles.
Issues: In this section you will find the journal archive containing the complete tables of contents (TOCs) for every issue of the journal. Each TOC provides links directly to the abstract, full text and PDF version of every article. In addition you can link to the PubMed record for the article, or a list of related articles generated by PubMed.
Articles: In this section articles are listed by type (review/research/commentary…) and by date of publication. Select the article type you are interested in from the menu at the top of the middle section, and navigate from month to month via the bar on the left.
Reports: In this section you can view the various reports we publish - these have been sorted by type and publication date.
Supplements: This is an archive of our supplements of meeting abstracts, proceedings and review collections.
Weblinks: This is our catalogued collection of Internet links to related websites and services.
Conferences: An up to date calendar of the most important meetings in the field.

Advanced search
Advanced search is a powerful and flexible tool for searching Critical Care, all articles published in BioMed Central journals or PubMed. You can specify and refine a search using dropdown menus or as a Boolean expression. For more detailed help on using the features of the search, click the 'Search tips' link near the search button. On this page you can also view your search history for the current session. You can refine and combine these searches and then store them for future use. In addition, registered users can have the results of stored searches e-mailed to them on a regular basis or whenever new articles matching a search are published.
Full text/XML functionality
The full text version of articles in Critical Care feature enhanced online functionality. You can use the links in this box to jump either to the abstract or PDF of the article, view any comments posted by other readers or the article's PubMed record. In addition you can view related literature: either other articles by the same authors, or related articles in PubMed. There are also a number of tools available for use:
